On June 21-22, 2012, the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) celebrated its 10th Anniversary. During its brief existence, the NIBIB has devoted itself to supporting extraordinary scientific advances in the fields of biotechnology, imaging, and biomedical engineering. The Academy of Radiology Research played a principal role in advocating for Congress to establish the NIBIB, and the Academy and CIBR worked with Congress to officially recognize the Institute’s first decade of success.
Congresswoman Eshoo, one of the original sponsors of the legislation to create the NIBIB, was the lead sponsor on a congressional letter to Secretary Sebelius that congratulated the NIBIB on its anniversary. That letter was signed by over 50 of her colleagues in the House of Representatives. In addition, Congressman Andrews gave a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives that honored the Institute for its work.
Senator Burr and Senator Mikulski also sponsored a Senate resolution in honor of this anniversary. That legislation passed the Senate unanimously on June 19th.
